About

The Moon Diggers are a team fielded by Edison Space Corportion in partnership with Astrobotic Technology to compete in the Regolith Excavation Challenge, one of several NASA Centennial Challenges.

In this competition, teams must excavate as much “Regolith” (Moon Dirt) as possible within a 30 minute period in Moon-like conditions. These conditions include: Low bandwidth, large communication delays, and weight limitations.

The teamĀ  able to get the most regolith in this time period, meeting the minimum threshold of 150kg (~330 lbs) will win a $500k prize.

The Moon Diggers see winning the prize as a first step to making robots that can successfully extract resources on the Moon for profit and future human expansion.
